With a massive collection of records and compact discs featuring everything from global music to hip-hop and electronica, Zulu has the indie scene more than covered. In fact, "The Georgia Straight" names the shop the 'Best Indie Record Store' in the city year in and year out.
80s Arcade-style Charm
Inside you’ll find a lively atmosphere decorated with teak wood paneling and high ceilings with lots of space. There are old school antique video games like Pong and Space Invaders around the room giving Zulu an 80s arcade-style charm. Like the big chains, there are a number of listening stations where customers can sample anything in the store before deciding on a purchase. Zulu also sells general admission concert tickets for bands and venues across the city.
Those looking for a little advice will definitely get an education at Zulu. Most longtime employees consider the retail record business more of a lifestyle than a job. Friendly and knowledgeable, they’re well connected to the local radio and independent music scene and can help steer you in the right direction. Check out their annual top music picks on Zulu’s website and pick up the headphones at one of the shop’s listening stations that features their choices.
