Why not enjoy Vancouver's natural beauty in your most natural state? Besides, let’s face it, nothing's worse than a threadbare, ill-fitting Speedo. From a trail off Point Grey Road, a steep flight of stairs leads unsuspecting visitors and seasoned regulars from the academic grounds of UBC down to a world less inhibited. The six-kilometre long, secluded beach is Canada’s first and largest, legal clothing-optional beach. Encompassing some of the city’s most pristine shoreline, Wreck Beach spans from the Musqueam Reserve to Spanish Banks.
Wear Your Birthday Suit
Although most of the people there are buck naked, Wreck looks just like any other beach: people play volleyball (without the support, mind you), toss the Frisbee, and soak in the sun (no tan lines of course). The unsaid rules of the beach are no staring and no flaunting, but both are hard to enforce.
Don't Miss Out
When your tummy starts rumbling, look to the vendors selling light snacks and cold drinks, including the alcoholic variety (all the rules are slightly askew down on the city's western bluff.Wreck Beach usually attracts a good mix of young and old with lots of couples (an equal number of hetero and homosexual). Not surprisingly, families are inclined to stick to nearby Jericho and Kitsilano beaches.
