Whether it’s ski season or summertime, Whistler is always a great spot to do some shopping. And Whistler’s Marketplace is the place to see what’s hip and happening in the resort town. The Marketplace is an attractive development that looks more like a trendy ski lodge than a shopping centre. Anchored by an IGA Marketplace grocery store, the Marketplace is home to more than 30 specialty stores, restaurants and professional services.
Real Estate Revival
As Whistler’s original full-service, drive-to shopping centre, the Marketplace has grown to be a one-stop shop for all your needs. When Whistler’s Marketplace opened its doors in 1992, it kick-started real estate development in the area estimated in excess of a half-billion dollars. The project — managed and leased by Trilogy Management Services Ltd. — seemed ambitious at the time, especially because it was being built in an undeveloped area north of the original village. But success came quickly. The Marketplace is now surrounded by the expanding Whistler Village and finds itself in a convenient and vibrant location with the most shopping traffic in town.
Whistler Retail At Its Best
Retail space at Whistler’s Marketplace commands premium rental rates and, as a result, attracts some of the most popular and successful retailers in the area — and in the province! In addition to IGA, a B.C. Liquor Store and a Pharmasave are backbone businesses at the Marketplace. The shopping centre is a great place to get everything you need to hit the slopes in style, thanks to trendy retailers like Westbeach — B.C.’s very own snowboard, skateboard and surf shop. If you’re more interested in hitting the slopes safely, visit Escape Route North — the local supplier of quality equipment for mountain enthusiasts. Whether you’re renting or buying, it’s a great place to shop for your outdoor adventure. After a few fun-filled days on the mountain, you’ll no doubt have some photos to develop. GS Photo and Electronics offers one-hour photofinishing, digital services and repairs. New and used cameras and accessories are also for sale. And don’t forget to send some postcards to the folks at home from the local post office!
