Vij’s Restaurantt’s owners prefer to avoid the obvious use of the tandoor oven. Spices and cooking techniques are derived from all parts of India. The first restaurant opened in 1994 and in 1995 Vij’s was named Best Asian Restaurant by Vancouver Magazine. Meats, seafood and produce are all local so the menu is seasonal.
Expert Food Preparation
It takes two shifts of kitchen staff to prepare meals for 5:30 each evening. There are no short cuts used here. The all Punjabi kitchen staff is dedicated to ensuring quality. All spices are hand sifted prior to roasting. Every week, 30 pounds of garlic are hand peeled. The detail ensures perfection when meals reach your table. The exotic atmosphere combines with the fragrance of the cooking creating what critics describe as “A lovely out of mind feeling of exoticism.” Vij’s has a great wine list to complement every meal. You can begin be selecting from a list of unique appetizers. The chefs take great care in presentation, and the menu includes creatively prepared dishes of beef, lamb and chicken.
Worth the Wait in the Lounge
Vij’s does not accept reservations. It has been operated on a first come, first serve basis since opening. You will probably discover a line up but can have time to enjoy the lounge. Try a few of the savoury snacks and original drinks. The company is always friendly, lending itself to conversation.
