This Thai, Malaysian and Indonesian eatery is the winner of the “Golden Plate award” as well as several other distinguished accolades. Tropika, with its three locations, has been a popular choice for Vancouverites since the early nineties. The view inside the restaurant whisks you away to an exotic place. Sleek lines, lit frosted glass, cool slate tile and stained wood give the room a edgy contemporary feel, while Thai, Malaysian and Indonesian masks give a traditional accent to the room.
Red Yellow and Green
The Thai curries come in three different varieties, red green and yellow, the menu offers spicy options for the brave and less spicy options for those who don’t like to eat and sweat. Seafood abounds on the menu, with plenty of mouthwatering selections featuring jumbo prawn, lobster and crab. A popular signature dish is the K.L. Crab coated with the spicy and aromatic crushed dried shrimp sauce. If meat is more your thing, Tropika offers a tasty menu of pork, beef duck and chicken entrees. There are plenty of interesting vegetable dishes, and don’t forget to try some of the classic rice and noodle dishes such as Pad Thai and Nasi Goreng. Another traditional offering and a crowd favourite is the Tom Yum Kung soup, with an added western twist of lobster meat to enhance its flavour.
Cool your Palate
Tropika offers the standard selection of Tropical drinks. Enjoy a Mai Tai, Singapore or Gin Sling or a Chi Chi, to help cool your palate after a spicy curry. Popular desserts include the fried bananas with ice cream, and the delicious Ice Kachang, a Malaysian dish, made of shaved ice, red beans and sweet corn and brightly coloured and sugary syrups.
