Profile

Dramatic Setting by the Waterfront
ocated on Wharf Street just steps away from the Inner Harbour, Topo’s boasts prime real estate in the historic Hartwig Court. Walk through the stone arch and into the grand entrance, where you’ll be greeted with a warm welcome, and offered a seat at the sleek bar or at one of the tables in the upper lounge area. If you plan to linger over a meal, you’ll want to descent the staircase for a seat in the main dining room. The dramatic space features high ceilings, stonewalls and massive windows framed with lush drapery. While there is no water view, the old brick wall through the windows offers a uniquely urban sight. Elegant and sophisticated, the restaurant also features contemporary lighting and furnishings, fine tableware and an impressive collection of original art. It’s hard to believe that this Victoria institution once made its home in a strip mall on Douglas Street before moving to the seaside digs in 2006.

Fine Traditional Italian Cuisine
With its impressive menu of traditional Italian dishes, Topo’s is as close to Tuscany as you can get in Victoria. Start your dining experience with the generous antipasto platter, which includes Italian meats, roasted peppers, assorted cheeses and olives, or opt for one of the many fresh salad options. The most impressive part of the menu is the long list of “primi piatti” pastas featuring simple favourites like spaghetti and meat sauce, and handmade specialties like gnocchi and manicotti. Main dishes include ultra-traditional choices like Osso Bucco alla Milanese and Scallopini Limone. You can finish your meal with a cheese and fruit plate or a rich homemade dessert. Being an Italian restaurant, expect an excellent selection of wines by the glass and bottle, as well as other libations sure to satiate.

Special Menus to Suit the Occasion
Looking for a light meal after an afternoon at the Inner Harbour? Topo’s offers a seasonal tapas menu sure to tide you over. Enjoy a glass of wine and order a few plates to share. The tapas menu focuses on seafood with choices like tiger prawns, scallops and oysters, which go great with a selection of cheese and olives. There are also set dinner specials, which are great for tour groups or people who want to enjoy the chef’s selection of complementary dishes.
