An intimate and lively restaurant, it is rare for Tio Pepes to have a slow night. But despite the clamour to eat here and the limited number of tables, you will not feel rushed to finish your meal. The two brothers who own and run the restaurant have attracted nods from the Vancouver Sun and the Golden Plate awards for mouthwatering cuisine and a dedication to fulfill customer needs. Some rate the service even higher than the scrumptious food. The terra cotta coloured walls, tile-topped tables and Mexican handi-crafts that adorn the space all lend to the authentic Mexican experience you will enjoy. If you can’t make it in to enjoy the full experience, there is a full take out and free delivery service available so you don’t miss out.
Salsa, Enchiladas, and Sangria
If your ideal Mexican meal includes salsa, enchiladas, and sangria – you are in for a treat. The fresh complimentary salsa is served aside warm tortillas made on the premises while you browse the menu and wait for your food to be prepared. Be careful not to fill up though, you’ll want to savour your entrée with a refreshing drink – don’t leave without sampling the sangria or tasty margaritas.
Something Unexpected
The menu has an abundance of choices available for the customer who likes to dine on something different. If this describes you, order the Tamal, a Mayan dish, that has masa corn, flour, spices, chicken, potato, peas & olives all wrapped in banana leaves or try the Nopales Capeados made with tender cactus pads, folded in a light egg batter, smothered with a tomatoe cheese sauce. Variations in menu selection can be expected with the changing of the seasons and the availability of fresh produce.
