Urban Café Oasis
t’s easy to forget that you’re at a bustling strip-mall corner when you enter this urban oasis. Urban Cup boasts a classy, sleek décor featuring paintings and photos of city scenes from around the world, impressive floral displays and plants, and lots of chrome accents. A black, red and gold colour palette finishes the look, and large windows offer great views of Mount Tolmie. About 20 tables are generously spaced around the café to allow for private conversations and in the warmer months, you can grab a seat at one of the stone or marble tables that sit among greenery along the sidewalk. In the winter, the place to be is on one of the leather chairs in front of the fireplace. In that cozy corner, you’ll have access to games such as cribbage and cards, as well as a variety of newspapers and magazines.
Quality Coffee and Tea
Locally owned and independent, Urban Cup is a strong supporter of other business that have the same MO. The café exclusively sells brews from the Fernwood Coffee Company, which means you’re getting organic, locally roasted coffee in every cup. A variety of Fernwood beans are also available for purchase. All of the usual espresso drinks are on offer, along with herbal tea by Mighty Leaf. In the summer, the café sells iced coffee beverages as well as homemade iced tea, Italian sodas and Mario’s Gelati.

Much more than just a coffee shop, the Urban Cup offers an extensive breakfast and lunch menu. In the morning, you have the option of grabbing an inventive muffin or scone on the go, or sitting down for a hot breakfast like an egg burrito, deluxe omelet or eggs Benny with all the fixings. Lunch attracts crowds with a large selection of gourmet sandwiches such as the Philly cheese steak on a baguette, the smoked ham and Brie panini, and the shrimp-avocado wrap. Salads made with local, organic ingredients also abound and go great with the house specialty roasted chicken corn chowder. Everything is made fresh on site, using only the best local ingredients.
