Profile
Creative Cards and Wrapping
You won’t find typical Hallmark greeting cards at this quaint shop on Fort Street. The Papery exclusively stocks cards by small and independent companies from all over the world — more than 100 in total. There’s a strong representation from local British Columbia artists as well as an emphasis on recycled materials. The wrapping section is also superb and boasts artisan paper from Japan, France and England; gift bags in all shapes, sizes and colours; funky colours of Chinese takeout boxes; and ribbon by the metre.
Premium Paper Products
From a rainbow of printing paper and matching envelopes to an extensive collection of origami and Decopatch paper, The Papery has premium paper products covered. The selection of stationary and journals is impressive and there’s also a great collection of feather pens and ink if you’re into calligraphy. Around the New Year, The Papery is full of agendas and calendars and if you need a new day-timer, there are all kinds of options including leather-bound editions from Italy. If you’re party planning, you can grab a set of colourful paper napkins and matching plates to go along with your paper lantern decorations.
Great Gift Ideas
If you just popped in to The Papery to find a last-minute card, you may also be able to find a little gift to go along with the greeting. The shop has all kinds of treasures and trinkets that make great presents. From a line of gardening tools from London’s Victoria and Albert Museum to novelty magnets and bath and beauty products, there are lots of choices. For photography lovers, there’s an excellent collection of photo albums, picture frames and photo boxes. There’s even a glass case full of unique jewelry by B.C. designers, such as Filou Designs and Tashi. Grab a cute gift box and you’re set!
