Friendly and historic
The Met Bar and Grill is not only one of New Westminster's favourite watering holes, it also has the distinction of being located in one of the city's most historic buildings. The Met Hotel, which houses the pub, was built in 1892, and was one of the few buildings to survive the 1898 fire that levelled much of downtown New West. Today, the Met Bar and Grill is friendly neighbourhood pub with a well-stocked liquor store in front and, in summer, a relaxing courtyard patio out back.

Pub fare's greatest hits
The first requirement for any respectable pub is a wide selection of beers on tap. The Met pours your pint with care, whether you fancy domestic, microbrew, or import. The menu features classic pub fare such as burgers, nachos, fish and chips, pasta, steak and club sandwiches. A favourite item is the the beef dip sandwich, made with shaved prime rib and served with homemade gravy. On weekends, the Met also serves brunch, including three styles of Eggs Benny and the West Coast favourite, smoked salmon bagel.

The game's on!
If game night is pub night, head to the Met for Canucks pay-per-view games, playoff action, and UFC fighting action, plus NFL Sundays. Around the room are 11 TVs, including a 50-inch flat screen. If that's not enough diversion, play a round on the pool table or play Keno or trivia. But on a sunny day, the patio is the place to be, sitting under an umbrella with a favourite drink, hanging out with friends and watching the trains come and go.
