Under new ownership, Wabi Sabi, previously the Raku Tapas Bar & Grill, offers the tony Point Grey neighborhood an added touch of natural elegance. This contemporary Japanese restaurant is decorated in warm natural fabrics and an assortment of complimentary woods. A few tatami rooms that seat five each are available; reservations recommended. The natural colors of green and brown extend to the pottery that has been imported from Japan. Baskets and bamboo steamers add to the ambience.
The Menu
Wabi Sabi's menu includes a host of elegantly prepared sushi and sashimi. A tower of tuna tartar served marinated with mango wasabi guacamole is a favorite on the menu, or choose from grilled duck or lamb with a balsamic/miso reduction. For the vegetarian there is a fabulous tofu steak and Portobello mushroom dish in a ginger sauce; for an appetizer try their warm wild mushroom salad served with organic greens. More familiar dishes such as chicken teriyaki are also available. They offer up to 13 wines by the glass, but more importantly, have a large selection of Japanese sakes served in bamboo flasks. Elegant, and natural, Wabi Sabi takes simple living to a higher plane.
