Ever seen anyone line-up for pizza? Come to Steveston Pizza, which serves unique pizza creations unlike anywhere else in the Lower Mainland. Since opening in 2006, this pocket-sized pizza joint has amazed savvy connoisseurs and drawn accolades from food critics. Founder Nader Hatami used to be a sous-chef at the posh Wedgewood Hotel. Now he spends his days kneading organic dough and dreaming up wonderful creations that keep customers sated and satisfied.
Poetry in a Pie
Steveston Pizza's menu reads like an ode to fresh ingredients and nature’s bounty. The categories include The Elements (Fire, Earth, Water, Wind) and The Margarite (classic margarita pizzas with toppings one wouldn't even think of putting on pizza, but thst work wonderfully well). The pizzas are also divided by geography (Mediterranean, Canadian, or the more exotic French and Japanese) or by colour. Blue, for example, has rosemary smoked pancetta, caramelized onion, mushrooms, baby spinach and Stilton blue cheese mousse, while Red is topped with port-marinated bison, enoki mushrooms, caramelized pearl onions, red wine and thyme confit. If ever there’s a pizza made for a candlelight dinner, this is it.
Fresh, Hot and To Go
Largely a take-out affair, Steveston Pizza has a handful of stools facing the street, but they’re usually taken by patrons patiently waiting for their piping hot, aromatic pizza to come out of the oven. Call ahead and skip the lines. Take the box to the nearby waterfront or have an impromptu picnic in your living room. If you’re not in the mood for pizza, a few other items such as salads and lasagna are available.
