Established in 1895 as the Sockeye Hotel, the now historic Steveston Hotel sits on the corner of 3rd Avenue and Moncton in Steveston village. It has long been a popular meeting place for local residents, fishermen and visitors, and boasts a colourful, conversation-starting history for them to talk about. In 1900, the hotel was home to the Duke of Connaught’s troops and is one of the few buildings to have survived the fire of May 1918. The hotel now stands as a Steveston landmark.
Touring the town
The hotel is perfectly situated for all of Steveston’s most popular tourist activities, like whale-watching adventures, dining on seafood feasts and browsing through the unique boutiques. Take a leisurely stroll along the dyke or through Garry Point Park for some West Coast air. Looking to cook it up? Buy some fresh fish and seafood at the local Sail's Wharf. And if you’re into soaking up some facts, visit the Gulf of Georgia Cannery Historical Site across the street.
Serving it up in Steveston
The Steveston Hotel site is also home to the Buck & Ear Bar and Grill and the Steveston Café. The bar is a local watering hole and the perfect place to catch the latest sporting event and relax with a cold pint. It has 350 indoor seats and two patios to enjoy the Steveston sunshine. The café serves up the Steveston-famous fish and chips as well as other favourites like hand cut hash browns and Virginia ham. The café also caters to groups up to 100 people and is a fun and friendly place to hold an event.
