The Good Old Days
Whistler’s Southside Diner is a flashback to Whistler’s roots, before the town became a ski resort of Olympic proportions. The walls are lined with photos of days gone by, when ski bums travelled from all over North America to live in camper vans, squat in cabins, and spend their days shredding fresh pow. The décor is that of a traditional American diner with vinyl booths, and a long bar facing the kitchen for counter service.
Signature Dishes
For starters, Southside is the perfect spot for the morning after a long night. Not only do they serve up the traditional diner cuisine like burgers, eggs and bacon; they also have one killer Caesar – a self-proclaimed hangover cure that includes a boiled egg. Meatloaf and chicken pot pie are amongst the favourites. Breakfast is served until 11:30 during the week and until 2pm on weekends. Check out their specials, which include burger and beer combos.
The Story
Southside was previously a deli. It decided to breathe new life into the space and dreamed up the diner concept. The Southside Diner celebrates its five-year anniversary in August 2009. With friendly service and a tasty menu, Southside is frequented by an eclectic bunch, from seasonaires living pay cheque to pay cheque to jet setting tourists.
