Simply Thai Restaurant plays an assortment of Jazz music from both local and international artists, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Artwork from Thailand is displayed on the walls and can be purchased from the establishment if there happens to be something that catches your eye.
Simply Thai has designed a friendly and accessible concept, to facilitate interaction with their customers. The kitchen is open, allowing diners to talk and watch the chefs as they work, and, as well, the staff is encouraged to advise about wine pairings. Most of them hail from Thailand themselves, and are happy to discuss Thai culture and history.
The restaurant wants to illustrate that authentic Thai food can actually exist outside of Thailand. In doing so, proprietors have brought their expertise and knowledge to Vancouver to prove it. They focus on evocative flavours like lemon grass, sweet basil and coconut milk, and incorporate the subtle blending of herbs and spices with stir-fried vegetables, curries and rich sauces. Most of the ingredients are found locally, while the more exotic ones, like Kaffir lime leaf, Thai basil, Pandun leaf and other spices and herbs, are imported directly from Thailand.
Hot As You Like It
The focus is on expressing the culture with a natural sense of beauty, which means carving the fruits and vegetables with the skill of an artist and presenting the food in a delicious, creative manner. Dishes come mild, for the timid, and extremely spicy for the more daring.
Kudos: Simply Thai Restaurant has won various awards over the years from publications in Vancouver.
