Calm, Cool and Elegant
At it's North Shore location, the ambience is tranquil and romantic. A small riverbridge leads the way towards private tables, warmly lit by lanterns. Once seated, servers promptly arrive with green tea, miso soup and salad to start the meal. To prepare the palate before dipping into the sushi, try the tako sunomono as an appetizer--a rice noodle salad served with octopus and cucumbers. Then tackle the long list of sushi.
Sushi, Sushi Everywhere
The wide selection of sushi, maki (small roll) and cone from inari (tofu skin) to uni (sea urchin) are always impeccably presented. The most distinct section on the menu is the list of Shota's special "famous rolls." These sushi celebrities are original combinations of local and exotic ingredients, served in generous portions. The Q.E. Park Roll is a majestic fusion of shrimp tempura, cucumber, avocado and tuna tempura with masago (roe), sesame and Shota's special sauce drizzled on top. While the sushi is exquisite, the prices are affordable.
Take-Away Teriyaki
Shota also a serves crunchy tempura dishes (including pumpkin and smelt fish varieties), fried rice, "wok-fried" noodle and teriyaki. Try the teriyaki salmon and prawn, or teryaki N.Y. Steak and prawn, to really hit the spot. For catering, Shota also sells party trays with an arry of sushi samplers. Delivery is available from both locations (after 5 p.m.).
