A neighbourhood favourite
Situated near the corner of Victoria Drive and 41st Avenue in South Vancouver, Shima Ya Sushi is a neighbourhood institution. It fills up quickly at lunch and dinner, not surprising considering that it seats a total of only sixteen people. A friendly atmosphere with nice touches of Japanese decor is one of the reasons regulars patronize this modest sushi restaurant, but the food is the big draw. Shima Ya Sushi specializes in fresh ingredients and traditional sushi preparation techniques.
Authenticity in every bite
Unlike some sushi spots that follow the fast food model, Shima Ya Sushi opens for two hours at lunch, and for four hours at dinner. Many of the customers are Japanese, a good endorsement, and the restaurant tends to get two thumbs up from food bloggers around town.<
Quality fare modestly priced
You’ll find a comprehensive range of sushi here, including the usual suspects: toro (fatty tuna), sake (salmon), tako (octopus), uni (sea urchin) and unagi (eel). More exotic choices are available. The menu also offers California Rolls, Spider Rolls, Tekka Maki Rolls, Veggie Rolls, and many other rolls, as well as a variety of udon and other dishes.
