A Big Warm, French Hug
Located on a strip of East Broadway known for its hodge podge of convenience stores and mechanical garages, Seb’s Market Cafe is a splash of colour and comfort. Open since early January 2004, Seb’s is best known for its fresh breakfasts, casual lunches, candlelit dinners and warm French atmosphere. The moment you enter Seb’s the buzz of East Broadway melts away. The sound track and artscape at Seb’s are to blame. Warm West African rhythms mingle with smooth Jazz. The walls are covered with colourful, local art and French design touches. Named after the owner’s son, Sebastien (Seb for short), the café not only serves up quirky breakfasts, but also sells fresh organic fruit, baked goods and boutique cooking supplies.

Food to Make the Trip For
Seb’s is a destination restaurant. The breakfasts are generous and non-traditional, think havarti cream sauce instead of hollandaise on Eggs Benedict. Most ingredients are organic and locally sourced. Sides such as turkey sausages and muffins are affordable, but then again so are the selection of sandwiches available for eat-in, take out or catering orders. The dinner menu is a menagerie of tastes. Amuse gueule (appetizers) include gems like baked camembert served with maple candied roasted garlic or five spice duck spring rolls. Entrees are even more interesting with combinations like mango butter, lemon pepper scallop spaghetti or morrocan lambshank served with apricot brandy jus. Seb’s is licensed to serve liquor as well.
