A Roadhouse, Cinema and Theatre
The Royal Theatre has been home to arts and culture in Victoria since it opened in 1913. It now houses the Victoria Symphony and Pacific Opera Victoria. Originally a venue that was rented out for performances, it was also used as a cinema from 1917 until 1981. Many artistic masters have graced the stage, including ballet dancer Mikhail Baryshnikov and opera singer Luciano Pavarotti.

When Past and Present Collide
In 1987, the Royal Theatre was selected as a site of historic significance. In 2002, restoration work in the 1434-seat auditorium maintained the Rococo/Renaissance Revival style décor. Although the style of the theatre is reminiscent of another time, technological upgrades in many areas including lighting and sound make the Royal Theatre an ideal venue for any performance.

A Popular Cultural Venue
In addition to being a popular venue for touring artists, the lobby of the theatre is also available as a space for recitals, receptions, lectures, meetings or private events. Enjoy season tickets to get a taste of the variety of performance that come to the Royal Theatre or watch out for entertainment features and tours announced throughout the year.
