Art Appreciation
Run by the non-profit Richmond Art Gallery Association, the Richmond Art Gallery (RAG) plays an important role in the growth of visual art in Richmond and is a vital part of BC’s contemporary art network. The gallery strives to further both the understanding of art and its visual enjoyment, with excellent exhibitions and education for the community. It is particularly devoted to developing an interest in contemporary art among children, youth, and adults in an easily digested fashion. It achieves this through workshops, lectures and outreach programs, as well as gallery exhibitions.

Permanent Collection
The Gallery has three distinct collections. The Contemporary Collection includes works in a variety of media created from 1980 forward. It is focussed on artists from Richmond and British Columbia, but other artist works are considered for acquisition if they complement the collection. The RAG: Two Decades of Collecting section includes works that were acquired during the gallery’s first 20 years. The last collection is Artists’ Early Works and Preparatory Material, which acts as a valuable resource for exhibitions and educational programs. It also provides materials for artists’ retrospectives and other historic research projects.

Education & Special Programs
The Richmond Art Gallery runs children’s programs that include Art Camps and badge workshops for Boy Scouts and Girl Guides. These run evenings and include a gallery tour and an exhibit related workshop. Their school program brings teachers and students close to contemporary art practices through hands-on workshops, tours, and discussions. Adult programs aim to provide an enriching experience that enhances a visit to the gallery. Programs are designed to engage the culturally diverse community of Richmond.
