Open Late Nights
From the outside, the Revel Room is unassuming. Just a small green neon sign reading “Revel” hangs above the door to let you know you’re in the right place. Inside, it’s amazing. The owners, veterans of the Vancouver restaurant scene, took their time to renovate the heritage space into a sexy, two-level lounge. It’s a great place to take a date or hang out with friends – sitting back, sipping a cocktail, and perhaps sharing a plate of something yummy. The kitchen is open very late, until 1:30 a.m. Hungry clubbers, rejoice!Sensory Delights
This is a place dedicated to good times. The music is upbeat – from rock’n’roll to funk and soul – and the menus encourage sharing and socializing. The cocktail list covers every taste, from the savoury Bloody Mary Martini to the sweet (and patriotic) Jack’s Canada with Crown Royal and maple syrup. A well-edited selection of wines by the glass and local beers on tap rounds out the list. The sharing plates change seasonally, but enduring favourites include Moroccan Lamb Meatballs, Crispy Buttermilk Wings, and Hawker Style Satays of chicken and prawns. At last call, the Revel Room says a sweet goodnight with fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies for all. Flattering Lights
The Revel Room’s compact footprint is lifted by the soaring ceiling and dramatic staircase to the upper level. The intimate, social feeling is enhanced by flickering candles on the tables and conversation-piece light fixtures and panels. For example, the two enormous light bulb-fixtures overhead formerly lit movie sets in the 1940s. Inset into the exposed brick wall are colourful glass panels – these were salvaged from the former Miller Block building on nearby West Hastings. Although a relative newcomer to the Gastown neighbourhood, the Revel Room fits right in.
