Another Contribution to the Flavourful Neighborhood
Commercial Drive is a Mecca for ethnic foodies and lovers of all things ‘mom ‘n’ pop.’ Almost every continent’s cuisine is represented on the Drive, by family run cafés, restaurants and bars. From Chinese and Salvadorian to Ethiopian and Italian, the flavours of the Drive are never boring. Add to this mix, the Red Burrito, the Drive’s answer to Mexican representation. Perched on the corner of East 1st and Commercial, the Red Burrito is what fast food should be: fresh, tasty and affordable. Set up as a counter service café that caters to diners on the go, the menu is small, but efficient. The decor is zesty, with tomato red walls, corrugated iron trim and vintage Mexican movie posters. The service is friendly and authentic, and there is usually at least one Spanish speaking employee working there.

The Red Burrito formula is simple: burritos, fajita burritos, tacos and salads (all made as either beef, chicken, shrimp or vegetarian options). Burritos can have a red or plain wheat tortilla, while tacos are all served on soft corn shells. Burritos are stuffed with a choice of meat or veggies and then paired with spicy rice and black beans. Condiments include four different kinds of salsa, tomatoes, onions, cilantro, sweet chili corn, sour cream . . . you get the idea. Guacamole costs extra, but is well worth it. Go to the Red Burrito hungry, because portions are not small. For North Shore burrito fans, there is a Red Burrito on Lonsdale too.
