True to Heritage
Unassuming from the outside, Primo’s Mexican Grill is an authentic Mexican cantina on the inside. The restaurant was founded by former BC Lion Primo Villanueva in 1959, and the third generation of the family is still running Primo’s in the same spot. Primo’s memorabilia figures prominently in the décor – his Rose Bowl trophy is displayed above the bar – and other quirky touches include a giant marlin over the fireplace and parrots and skulls hung on the columns. The overall effect is warm and welcoming, personal and authentic.
Served with Pride
The authenticity extends to the food and drink. The beverage of choice is, of course, the margarita. The food is made from family recipes for enchiladas, tacos, burritos, and chiles rellenos. These can be ordered as entrees or as special combination plates served with with beans and rice. The Caesar salad is the genuine article, made according to the original Tijuana, Mexico, recipe. The menu also includes a few contemporary takes on tradition, such as Alaskan Snow Crab Enchiladas.

Primo’s Mexican Grill is only open for lunch and dinner. Weekday lunches feature daily specials, and when you come in for five lunches, the sixth one is free. Evenings at Primo’s begin with Happy Hour from 5 to 6 p.m. weekdays. Enjoy daily drink specials and specially priced tapas, including tostadas, beef taquitos, papas bravas, nachos, and ceviche, along with some cervezas, your friends, and the game on the TV.
