Taste of Tradition
Founded in 1998, this cosy little Indonesian restaurant began as an offshoot of one woman’s inspiration to make her hobby a full time job. Many people in her family had the practiced skill of cooking and for generations recipes were passed down, tweaked and made perfect. Now those very same recipes are being served to customers in both of Pondok’s Lower Mainland locations – one in Vancouver and one on Commercial Drive.
Fresh and Local
Pondok uses the freshest ingredients from local markets, making these dishes a delight to eat. Famous for its large helpings and flavourful choices, this place is a favourite of many. From coconut curries and seafood galore to a wide variety of vegetarian dishes and delicious appetizers, this is a great place for food to go or a proper sit-down dinner. Traditional Indonesian desserts are also a-plenty on the menu, with fried banana and ice cream at the top of the list. Pondok also sells a line of homemade, preservative-free, additive-free cooking sauces, which you can buy at the restaurant and cook with at home.

This cozy restaurant is softly lit and surrounded with warm wood paneling – making it an inviting place both for a lively dinner with friends or an intimate dinner for two. Voted the Best Indonesian restaurant in 2006 in the Vancouver Sun, Pondok has received many positive reviews and compliments in everything from The Province to the Zagat Guide. Call ahead for catering and special party bookings. It’s also possible to request special dishes or set menus for parties.
