Tucked away in a block of East Georgia off Main is this small Cambodian/Vietnamese restaurant, looking very small and ordinary from the outside. However, it's been open for 20 years, winning local awards. Believe it or not it'sfamous beyond Vancouver among food cognoscenti.
Familiar but Different
Using familiar ingredients but combined and prepared in unexpected ways, this Vietnamese menu differs from the scores of other Vietnamese pho restaurants. Pho (beef soup) is a standard, as are other Vienamese dishes like spring rolls and grilled lemongrass chicken. You'll find peanuts and cilantro here and there. The chicken wings are from a bird of a different feather, you might say, than the usual pub wings, and the papaya salad is a world apart.
When did you last eat Cambodian?
Cambodian is less commonly available in Vancouver, and you will notice the difference. Notable dishes are the garlic squid (spiced), and paper thin marinated beef, beautifully served with deep fried garlic. Desserts are memorable.
Have No Reservations
The prices are astonishingly reasonable. It is licensed, but has no wheelchair access, or area for smoking. The restaurant seats 100 and doesn't take reservations.
