At 4,000 square feet, Pepper’s is smaller than some of the homes of its Uplands customers, but the store still maintains an extensive range of products. The grocer carries all the best national brands, as well as a variety of natural, organic and diet-sensitive products. Fresh bread comes in from a variety of local bakeries and produce comes from local farms whenever possible. Pepper’s also boasts a full line of fish from all over the world, as well as the best selection of local salmon in town. If you want a unique kind of fish, the store can special order it for you with 24-hours notice. And from the butcher, you can get naturally raised, organic meats and free-range turkeys for holidays. Pepper’s is always expanding its product line and encourages suggestions from customers.
Community-minded Grocer
One hundred per cent locally owned and operated, Pepper’s offers a great alternative to chain grocery stores. The quaint shop in Cadboro Bay has been in business since the 1990s, and has a loyal following of community members who like to shop local. The name Pepper’s was chosen though a customer contest and honours the owner of the grocery store that previously occupied the building, John Pepper. The store’s high level of customer service and quality products has led it to win numerous industry awards, including the Canadian Federation of Independent Grocers gold medal for best grocery store in Canada two years in a row.
Special Services and Great Deals
With all kinds of great services, it’s no wonder Pepper’s has won so many awards! For those who have difficulty doing their groceries, the grocer offers online and phone ordering, and a free same-day delivery services for orders over $50 within a five-kilometre radius. If you live outside of the free zone, delivery is still available at a nominal cost. With its close proximity to the University of Victoria, Pepper’s offers students 10-per-cent off everyday. Seniors also get a discount on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Another great service offered at Pepper’s is the preparation of party trays and gift baskets. There’s a wide range of pre-designed platters, such as “Watching the Game Tray,” and the “Barbecue Buddy,” while all gift baskets are custom-made to suite your style and budget. Cutom floral service for all occasions is also available.
