The Beatles’ upbeat 1967 pop hit Penny Lane was about a happy day in the life of a London neighbourhood, “beneath the blue suburban skies”. Blue skies are as welcome in London as they are in Vancouver, but even when the clouds are out and the rain is drizzling down, the Penny Lane Neighbourhood pub offers good cheer and a warm welcome. It is a true neighbourhood bar, with a solid collection of UK beers, and other spirits, and good, well-made and affordable pub fare. The decor and ambiance aren’t anything fancy. Don’t expect Carrie Bradshaw and gang to stop by for Cosmopolitans. This is an unassuming and friendly place to visit for a drink with friends—or maybe two!
Tasty, Substantial Pub Food
The Penny Lane Neighbourhood Pub has a citywide reputation for fat, juicy beef, chicken and salmon burgers that are always freshly prepared. Regulars like the Eggs Benedict too. The lunch menu features a new soup and sandwich special every day, which is a big seller. The pub’s steak is a popular item too. Also on offer are chicken wings, pot stickers, prawns, perogies and more. The service is usually pretty good, and you get value for your money.
Sports and Community Events
If you like sports, you’ll like The Penny Lane Neighbourhood Bar. It’s the main topic of interest and conversation among regulars. Baseball, softball, football, soccer and jogging groups hold annual get-togethers here. The pub also hosts many charity-related events.
