Eco-friendly fashions and ethnic treasures
Bohemian fashionistas flock to Paranada to get all the goods for their groovy outfits. From bandannas and hats to legwarmers and wool socks, complete head-to-toe looks can be created with the shop’s unique collection of imports from India and Nepal. Paranada has the largest selection of flowy hippy skirts and fishermen pants in the city, which look great paired with a light shirt and scarf. The whole family can enjoy quality, handwoven clothing made from fabrics like hemp, flax, bamboo and organic cotton and silk, with funky styles for men, women and children. The jewelry selection is also impressive, and pieces feature wood, beads, silver and semi-precious stones. For the musically inclined, there’s an excellent selection of African wood drums, rainmakers and long flutes from India. And if you’re looking for a gift for someone who appreciates the original and the ethnic, Paranada boasts an excellent selection of homewares, such as wooden bowls and platters, wall hangings, statues and masks.

Tribute to Tibet
Tibetan prayer flags can be seen fluttering throughout the Commercial Drive area, and a great majority of them came from Paranada. The shop has baskets full of the colourful flags, and hangs them proudly from the ceiling, along with the national flag of Tibet, various sizes of which are also for sale. Dali Lama scrolls also abound, and for those who are really into Tibetan culture, there are signing bowls and ornate statues. The rustic, ethnic atmosphere at Paranada is further enhanced by lots of live plants, ethnic music and the scent of incense and essential oils (also for sale) wafting through the shop.

Committed to the community
Paranada has a strong tradition of working with local people in India and Nepal to produce clothing, hats and bags from natural materials. Every year since 1988, Paranada has been travelling to India and other countries to select pieces and connect with artisans there. The work is environmentally sustainable and workers are treated fairly and take great care to produce the best garments possible. You can see snapshots and collages of the people working throughout the shop. Paranada also supports the local community by selling an assortment of products made locally and hosting regular drumming sessions in the store.
