The biggest kudos given by customers to Olympia is the large helpings and delicious Greek food. Start with spanakopita, dolmathes, calamari or saganaki. From there, the menu is wide open. Lamb is certainly one of their specialties, either in souvlaki or Paithakia Skaras style; steak lovers will be drooling over the Canada Grade “A” top sirloin options. Don’t forget the lasagna, spaghetti, ribs, chicken and prawns. Even vegetarians are taken care of with veggie moussaka, served with Greek salad and rice. It’s home cooking like your mamma used to make.
Bottoms Up
The full bar offers up a reasonable wine and drinks list. House wines in both red and white come in bottles, half litres and by the glass. Cocktails and spirits are plentiful, with margaritas, martinis and highballs. For groups, a pitcher of sangria or Granville Island Lager is always a good deal. Specialties include Bailey’s Irish Cream, Tia Maria and brandy, and Grand Marnier and Amaretto. For those who do not drink, try the non-alcoholic beer or tea selections.
A Local Hit
Olympia Pizza has been pleasing Kitsilano residents since 1967. Its Greek décor, cozy setting and an outside heated patio keep the regulars coming back. Delivery is free after 5pm, so leaving the house isn’t even necessary. If a night out is the plan, the location of this restaurant is great for dinner and then a movie at the Hollywood Theatre, which is almost right across the street. Just don’t spread the word too far: you don’t want the place to lose its charm.
