Since opening in 2004 on Denman Street, Mr. Pickwick’s has wowed its clientele with inventive seafood meal combos and succulent sauces. The Georgia Straight named Mr. Pickwick’s Vancouver’s “Best Fish and Chips” in 2005 and 2006. Westender readers also like their fish and chips too, bestowing a reader’s choice award on the small restaurant 2006.
Multicultural Fish and Chips
Mr. Pickwicks caters to seafood lovers from around the world. Menus are available in Korean, Japanese and Chinese as well as English. Each day a different kind of fish is featured. Finned favourites from New Zealand, South Africa, Jamaica and India are rotated through the menu as weekly specials.
Some Like it Saucy
While some restaurants in Vancouver’s West End have Sommeliers, Mr. Pickwick’s has a ‘Saucier’. The Saucier is Mr. Pickwick’s own sauce expert. Collaborating with other staff, the Saucier has come up with tasty coverings for both fish and fries. The zesty lemon and dill is a favourite accompaniment for salmon, while the “some like it hot” sauce is not for those with sensitive palates.
