Profile Last Updated: July 12, 2007
This modern Irish restaurant and bar is young and hip and attracts university students, young professionals, and tourists staying at the adjoining Ramada Hotel. It caters to a slightly more upscale crowd and the stylish interiors reflect it: less a traditional Irish bar, more chic, dimly lit watering hole. Enjoy your favourite pint from one of the Morrissey’s many drinking spots: the red stools at the bar, apple green banquette seats, comfy leather armchairs in front of the gas fireplace, or on sturdy tables and chairs in the back area. Faux gothic candles hanging on the lamps illuminate the room in a warm glow, a suit of armour beside the fireplace add a touch of quirkiness. Soft Celtic music plays in the background.
Entertaining Extras
Two flat-screen TVs play Canucks pay-per-view games (the best seat in the house for viewing are the two couches in front of the fireplace). The Morrissey has also seen, among its patrons, musical celebrities like Metric and Social Distortion – check out the autographed wall. It’s a convivial spot, suitable for drinks with friends, pre-club or pre-show snacks, or a filling lunch or dinner. While there are no private rooms, the back area, which is slightly elevated from the rest of the room, can be booked as a separate space.
Irish Goods
The eatery is known for traditional Irish favourites like Irish stew with soda bread, shepherd’s pie, Irish lamb stew and the beer-battered Galway fishburger. The calamari salad also comes highly recommended. Daily food and drink specials offer excellent bargains. Of course, Irish beers are on tap including Guinness, Kilkenny Irish Cream and Smithwick’s Irish Ale. Canadian beers and other imported drinks are also available.
