From kitchen islands to opium beds to dining room tables for families of 10, Monarch has complete lines of furniture to complete your home. The shop focuses on unusual product lines that combine modern styles with organic raw materials, such as teak and mango wood. Monarch has exclusive arrangements with some of its international suppliers, meaning you won’t find the same furnishing anywhere else in North America. Many pieces are imported from Asia, while top designers such as Normann Copenhagen, Urban Leather and Nuevo are also represented.
It’s possible to put together entire rooms — houses even — at Monarch, and the impressive showroom offers plenty of inspiration. The heritage space in Victoria’s Design District features simple hardwood floors and white walls ideal for showcasing the pieces. Complete rooms are set up, offering shoppers a glimpse of what their home could look like. No detail is overlooked in the bedroom setups, which include linens, lamps, mirrors, candles, throw pillows and art. No need to be envious of the rooms that are stylish to the last detail — all of the home accessories are also for sale!
Imports doing imports
Monarch Furnishings opened in 2005, when an Aussie and a Montrealer moved to Victoria to sell furniture imported primarily from Indonesia. Husband-wife team Tony and Karen Martin settled in Victoria after about a decade of international travel. Once they realized the capital city is the perfect place to make a home, they wanted to help others make their homes as comfortable and attractive as possible, which is where their impressive collection of imports comes in. The Martins are passionate and knowledgeable in the home furnishings department, and will work with you to create your dream living space!
