Fairways Steeped in History
Eight years after B.C. joined confederation and seven years before Vancouver incorporated as a city, two brothers began to clear the wilderness between the bluff and the north arm of the Fraser River for a dairy farm. Today, over 125 years later, that same site is home to The Marine Drive Golf and Country Club. The cows have been gone since 1922, replaced by fairways and flags.
Quick Play, High Level
One of only three privately owned courses in the city of Vancouver, the fairways are lined with mature trees, and are strategically bunkered. Laid out over 89-acres, it’s a course with a reputation for quick-play (rounds over four hours are rare), but Marine Drive is known for its difficulty rather than it’s length. Known as a player’s club, a quarter of their membership boasts a handicap of 10 or less, speaking to its high caliber of play. Visits by golf celebrities and celebrity golfers are common. Current and past greats to grace the greens include Annika Sorenstam and Fred Couples. Celeb sightings include the late Bob Hope, Sean Connery and Rhinestone Cowboy Glen Campbell.
Classic Clubhouse
A home away from home for members, the clubhouse offers a wide variety of food and beverage options, from a casual drink with friends to full banquet services.The Clubhouse hosts events for up to 250 people, and combines classic beauty with contemporary facilities. Oak doors open to reveal a mahogany staircase that climbs to the mezzanine level, where beautiful chandeliers hang from the ceiling and photographs and memorabilia of the club’s long and storied history hang from the walls. Stop for a post game drink on the huge patio overlooking the course and stock up in the Club’s very own golf shop.
