Delicious Choice
Marble Slab Creamery does for ice cream what Starbucks did for coffee. Ordering an ice cream is a staggering set of delectable choices. The franchise’s concept is simple: take homemade gourmet ice cream then choose from a variety of toppings or mixins which are blended into the ice cream on a frozen marble slab. The resulting sweet concoction is paddled into a bowl, waffle cone or waffle bowl. Take your luxurious dessert down to English Bay and savour it by the seawall or beach.

Temptation on Display
Around the corner from Davie and Denman, Marble Slab Creamery is in the perfect spot for the summer tourist trade. Denman has a surfeit of gelateria but has lacked a proper ice cream parlour since the lamentable closure of Miriam’s. The creamery’s glass-fronted store is decorated in pastel hues of sky blue, mint green and cotton candy pink. Suspended above the ice cream counter, a curving shelf is loaded with large glass jars displaying over 30 kinds of mixins: candies, chocolate bars, fresh fruit and nuts. Stacked white baskets behind the counter are laden with freshly baked waffle cones and bowls, some dipped in white or dark chocolate and rolled in morsels of chocolate bar, nuts or sprinkles. A white freezer exhibits decadent ice cream pints and cakes which can be custom ordered. A counter with a handful of stools lines the front windows for ice cream on a rainy day.

Sweet Concoctions
The creamery rotates through a repertoire of over 40 superpremium (14 per cent milk fat) flavours with around 20 available on any day. Overwhelmed by the gamut of decisions? There are dozens of suggested combinations with tasty names like Snickerdoodle or Willy Wonka. Your favourite flavour can also be whipped into a shake, malt or float. Old-fashioned banana splits, sundaes and strawberry shortcake are other sweet temptations. The creamery also bakes apple pies and brownies. If for some ridiculous reason you don’t want ice cream, non-fat or low fat frozen yoghurt is available plain, with toppings or in a fruit smoothie.
