The communities of Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows have access to a multitude of arts opportunities through The ACT, a wonderful facility run by the local arts council. Almost any art form you can think of can be learned in classes offered throughout the year – dance, music, acting, drawing, painting, pottery, woodcarving, photography, paper making, quilting, stained glass, writing, print making, jewellery making, and sculpting. Wow! This must be an unusually creative part of the province. A publication called the Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows Arts & Recreation Guide can be picked up at The ACT, as well as at leisure centres throughout the two communities.
Theatre Engagements
An exciting line-up of shows runs at The ACT every month. Drama, dance and music, presented by a diverse number of theatre companies, finds its way onto The ACT’s stage. Professional works from far and wide, as well as student productions from local schools, share the schedule. Patrons are assured of incredible variety in their entertainment options. The Ridge Meadows Arts Council invites membership that supports The ACT, volunteers who play a role in mounting programs and exhibits, and donations that support arts and culture in the communities.
Gallery and Gifts
The Act complex also includes the Maple Ridge Art Gallery, a non-profit community art space that’s dedicated to engaging and educating the public in the visual arts and professional art practices. They do this by supporting exhibits with opening receptions, artist talks, workshops, and tours. The Gallery Gift Shop stocks beautiful gift items by artists such as jewellery, glass, handcrafted wood items, and original paintings.
