Fresh Face
This Davie institution got an extreme makeover in 2007. The Majestic Restaurant and Lounge has supplanted the old Fresgo Inn, which had existed since 1973. The 160-seat “resto-lounge” is one grand space combining a bar/lounge and dining area. Live performances include drag shows, live music, cabaret, burlesque, comedy and charity events.

Good-Looking Space
The Majestic is handsomely designed with dark brown floors, buff stone accent walls and bold splashes of colour. The waiting area is a punchy fuchsia with a pair of gilt mirrors, two red poufs and a long bench for hanging out. The bar/ lounge features a stone fireplace surmounted by a couple of small flat-screen TVs. Another wide screen hangs above the black bar, which occasionally hosts bar-top dancing. Tall tables and bar stools in chocolate wood match the regular dining tables and seats. A half dozen tables are shaded by red umbrellas on the patio, which is screened off from the parking lot. Light from the all-glass front of the building as well as tiered chandeliers give the room a warm glow.

Strutting the Stage
The raised stage with a full sound and lighting system is draped by black and red curtains, as is the dressing/prep area for performers. This curtained area doubles as a private dining space. The stage can also be transformed into a runway for fashion shows. Wednesdays, Joan-E hosts Bingo for Life with proceeds going to the Friends for Life charity. Local musicians play Unplugged Thursdays, and gender illusionist Symone presents Dressing on the Side on Fridays. Sunday Brunch with Queens stars Robyn Graves and Carlotta Gurl who chit-chat with customers over their eggs. On the menu are casual favourites including an assortment of burgers, paninis and salads; starters like wings and ribs; and build-your-own pasta dishes. Mains include grilled salmon, Piri-Piri steak and chorizo-stuffed chicken breast. In addition to wine and beer, the bartenders serve up funky cocktails too.
