Profile Last Updated: January 30, 2009
Tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the Village and Creekside, Le Gros is one of Whistler’s oldest and best-kept secrets. The work of French artists dot the walls inside chef Pascal Tiphine’s private mountain chalet, where he serves some of the finest French food in British Columbia. Except for the makeshift sign on the side of the Sea-to-Sky highway, the restaurant doesn’t do any advertising, thereby keeping costs reasonable and the quality of the menu intact.
Fine French Dining
Word of mouth may be the only way to hear about Le Gros, but that doesn’t mean it’s not busy – reservations are a must! Locals love the food inside the 110-seat dining room and out on the 60-seat patio. There is a little something for everyone with specialties like Rack of Lamb and Salmon Wellington – always popular - and Tiphine offers a different fish special daily. The restaurant also features a rather extensive wine list with bottles ranging in price from affordable to extravagant.
Welcome Back Home
First-time customers quickly become friends and friends become regulars inside the intimate and at-home atmosphere Tiphine has created at Le Gros. It’s a little piece of the French countryside right in Whistler and should not be missed for those interested in French cuisine in a relaxed environment. Once you’ve dined at Le Gros, it will entice you to return time after time.
