Where Drama and History Come Together
Nestled within a quaint Victoria neighbourhood is the Langham Court Theatre. This community theatre is one of Canada’s oldest theatres with a long history of staging productions from world-renowned playwrights such as Tennessee Williams and Arthur Miller.

Evolution of a Theatre
The original buildings that are now home to Langham Court Theatre were originally a carriage house and barn belonging to the Robert Ward family estate. It then changed hands a few times and served a variety of functions. It was part of a school for boys as well as a school for girls, a meeting hall and the home of the Victoria Operatic Society before it became a theatre. In the years between 1938 and 1940 the buildings were transformed into the Victoria Little Theatre and Dramatic School. In the early 1950s, the buildings were joined together and renamed the Langham Court Theatre.

Join the Theatre Experience
Langham Court Theatre has provides volunteers with valuable opportunities to experience the theatre. Actors can audition for roles for the season’s upcoming productions. For those who would rather pull the production together behind the scenes, there are numerous volunteer positions to choose from. There are technical opportunities to work in sound and lighting as well as the chance to get creative with construction, painting, props, costumes, makeup and hair. There are many other opportunities essential for any successful production ranging from directors to ushers.

The Pride of Canadian Drama
Recent Canadian Productions at Langham Court Theatre that have delighted theatergoers are: Marion Bridge by Daniel MacIvor, Maggie's Getting Married by Norm Foster, Artichoke by Joanna Glass, and Here on the Flight Path by Norm Foster. With a long history of productions and an endless number of volunteers, Langham Court Theatre is an important part of arts, culture, and community in Victoria.
