Classy yet cozy, La Quercia is the quintessential Kitsilano restaurant. With room for only about 30 diners at once, there’s a natural welcoming vibe. The dining area has two rows of tables against facing walls and the décor is simple and modern with an impressive series of art framed in bold gold. Not only will you get cozy with fellow diners you can also get up close and personal with the chefs as you walk through the kitchen to the washroom. Indeed, the setting is classic Italian “family style,” and if you miss the chefs on your way to the loo, you’ll most likely encounter them doing the rounds to ensure you’re enjoying your meal. Make reservations to beat the throngs of regulars.
Classic Italian Cuisine
La Quercia is all about simple, classic Italian cuisine. Dishes are made even better by the chefs’ commitment to sourcing fresh, local, organic ingredients whenever possible. The menu is divided into antipasti, primi (pastas) and secondi (meat and fish), and offers a thoughtful selection at every level. The dishes change on a very regular basis, so repeat visitors stay inspired. No Italian meal is complete without wine, and La Quercia offers many choices. If you’re in the mood for something special, ask for their reserve list.
Strong Roots
La Quercia means oak tree in Italian and the restaurant was named such because of its strong roots. The two young men who run the buzzing eatery, Adam Pegg and Lucais Syme, both worked at another hit Kitsilano institution together before branching out like a quercia. Pegg also took three years to study the slow food movement in Italy. Their commitment to food and to each other shines through and makes for a truly delicious and memorable dining experience.
