Koda Klothing is a small space in an odd place. Not many people think of clothes shopping on Nanaimo Street in East Vancouver. The store is essentially a boutique. They focus on twelve or so designer brands including Vancouver’s organic and sustainable line, Twice Shy. Artist driven label, RVCA, is also a staple at Koda. RVCA works with the Artist Network program, which showcases different artists’ designs and donates part of the profits to the charity of the artist’s choice. Other brands Koda carries include the skate-inspired Matrix, 4Star, DVS and Lakai. Besides being at Koda, these lines share an affinity for quality and creativity.
The Outlet Side of Things
Despite its boutique atmosphere and its focus on just a few labels, Koda is also an outlet store. The clothing here are often samples and overstock items from distributors. These items are being sold at Koda at forty to eighty per cent off the retail prices found at other shops that also carry them. But Koda didn’t want to have their customers digging through bins to get the deals. This is the reason behind their tagline: “We are the original outlaw outlet.”
Other Fun Stuff
Besides clothing, Koda carries accessories such as backpacks, hats, belts and wallets. Not to mention locally designed jewellery and art. There’s always art on the walls at Koda and it’s for sale. The art changes regularly, so if you’d like to have a particular piece on your own wall, be sure to pick it up. And, if you visit Koda’s website, you can check out the Koda Kommunity. This page will connect you to the businesses Koda has connected with and recommends. There’s everything from auto repair to restaurants. Koda is certainly starting something different with their business and it’s worth checking out.
