Profile

Serene, intimate atmosphere
Located on the Oak Bay Avenue shopping strip, Kissako is a great place to pop in for tea or a light meal. The attractive eatery offers a relaxing atmosphere thanks to calming green tones, a window Zen garden and smoothing Japanese music. With space for fewer than 20 diners, the room is cozy and intimate. On nice days, you can also grab a seat on the sidewalk and watch all the action on the avenue.

Satisfying selection of sushi, soups and salads
Kissako’s menu is based on a macrobiotic diet, so you can expect lots of healthy, organic Japanese fare. Specializing in sushi, the restaurant offers a great range of rolls, including vegetarian varieties made with brown rice. Other traditional Japanese dishes include miso udon soup, salads like Ohitashi and Sunomono and rice bowls. There’s also a decadent dessert menu featuring green tea treats.

Great variety of green teas
“Kissako” means “tea” in Japanese and healthy, antioxidant green tea is one of the main attractions at this café. Kissako offers a variety of organic brewed green teas that are imported directly from Japan and can’t be found elsewhere in Victoria. Matcha espresso and lattes are also available, along with green tea smoothies and juices. Bubble tea is also popular. For those who want to enjoy tea at home, Kissako also sells loose teas.
