Profile Last Updated: February 13, 2009
Located near the end of Moncton Street, Kisamos is a small, unassuming restaurant in the heart of Steveston Village. The décor is simple and homey with green tables, wooden chairs and green booths. Pots of greenery liven up the neutrally beige room. Adorning the walls are requisite photographs of Greek villages and beaches. If you can, get a table by the window overlooking quaint Moncton Street. Enjoy a glass of wine or a shot of ouzo and nibble your appies while enjoying the scenery - but make sure you leave a lot of room for the main course.
Enormous Servings and Sides
Since opening its doors in 1997, the eatery has become a favourite spot among locals because of the heaping servings of good home-style cooked Greek food. The calamari appetizer is a mountain of deep fried baby squid goodness. House specials include kotopita, chicken sauteed with vegetables, herbs and cheese wrapped in phyllo pastry, and keftethes, delicious Greek-style meatballs. But the best dish in the house, without a doubt, is the roast lamb. The meat is tasty and tender and falls off the bone with just a light touch of the fork. Entrees are embellished with pilaf, greek salad, oven-roasted potatoes and tzatziki sauce.
Extra Details
At full capacity, Kisamos can seat about 55 people. Reservations are accepted and are highly recommended on weekends. Though service may not be as thorough during busy dining times, the price and quality make up for it as Kisamos is definitely worth a visit again and again.
