Specialty coffee lover flock to this top-notch spot for some of the best brews in town. All Khona coffees are handpicked, sun-dried, high-mountain-grown and custom-roasted in small batches. Many of the coffees are custom blends you won’t find anywhere else and can be enjoyed in a variety of different ways — as espresso drinks, French pressed or aeropressed. Khona is also keen on teas and is the official supplier to the Victoria Symphony. There’s also enticing food on offer at the café, which has a unique pairing program where it recommends certain snacks with specific beverages. In addition to baked sweets to complement your coffee, there are also lunch options with an ethnic twist like exotic soups, wraps, samosas, sushi, dim sum and paninis. Catering is also available.
Environmentally-friendly Café
This Victoria-owned café is dedicated to the local and global environment. As such, it serves fair-trade, shade-grown, organic coffee, and uses local, organic ingredients in its food items whenever possible. The café itself boasts B.C.-made and locally purchased furniture and art, non-toxic textiles and other eco-friendly features. Customers may opt for local, organic fruit as a snack and add organic milk to their beverages.
Welcoming Community Vibe
Not just a spot to grab a quick java, Khona has established itself as a community hangout. The cozy café that features warm colours, comfortable seats and a welcoming vibe encourages people to relax and stay a while. To that end, the shop regularly features special events like tastings and meetings of coffee and tea aficionados, such as the Fellowship of Maccha. Once a month on Saturday nights, the coffee shop welcomes a local musician to change up the vibe and features the artist’s favourite café drink. A variety of musical styles have been on display, most commonly R&B, blues, jazz and rock.
