Apparel oddities
The palpable product of years of dreaming, proprietor Jackie O’Brien has filled the loft-like retail space with an eclectic range of apparel for both men and women. Embroidered leathers, silken dresses, pinstriped ties, perforated sweatshirts… the clothes stocked behind the framed floor-to-ceiling windows leave nothing to be undesired. They also carry exclusive labels including Paris’ April 77, Sweden’s Velour brand or Bulga purses (super soft leather bags in all colours but black). From leggings and oversize sweaters to hip hugging denim or casual evening dresses, there’s something for every stylish clotheshound.
More than denim
Piled on the grey tables, interspersed and dangling from hangers is the ubiquitous and requisite fabric of most city-dwellers: denim. The distinctive designs of Citizens of Humanity, Seven for all Mankind, James, True Religion, Habitual, Antik, etc. decorate the jeans’ respective back pockets, while hue and tonal options range from the light and dark to the blue and black. Whether you’re into tapered jeans or a standard boot cut, J&O delivers. Men can choose from an array of expertly crafted hoodies, tees and collared shirts. Ladies can accessorize their newly denimed bodies with belts and purses.
Beyond the ordinary
Rounding off the collection is a nice reserve of scalloped coats, hooded scarves and soft cotton knits at exaggerated lengths by brands like Rebecca Taylor, Perfume River and L.A. Made. Though the merchandise and brand listing is in constant flux, O’Brien’s focused commitment to things beyond the ordinary guarantees a continued supply of modern and fresh, albeit wonderfully strange, wares. Jonathan and Olivia also host private shopping parties for its clients. Usually scheduled outside of normal shop hours, the parties provide small groups with an intimate shopping experience.
