Visual Seduction
Step into India Bistro and you will be drawn into a warm cocoon of tantalizing smells and a beautiful interior. Walls are painted in earthy shades of cinnamon, ochre and green apple and decorated with Indian-themed paintings. Red brick pillars add character while textured fabrics on booths, pillows, curtains and carpets lend an air of luxury. Ornate oil lamps hang from the ceiling and illuminate tables with a warm glow. The bar, at the end of the room, is arrestingly simple in red and black with bar stools upholstered in red suede. A discreet flat-screen television features Canucks games occasionally for the viewing pleasure of hungry sports fans.

Feast for the Palate
The food here hails from northern India with regional staples like naan breads, samosas, pakoras and tandoori items on the menu. Favourites include boneless lamb cooked in a cashew curry sauce and chicken tikka masala. Like most Indian restaurants, there is an excellent selection of vegetarian dishes. Eat to your heart’s delight at the all-you-can-eat lunch buffet. The restaurant is also fully licensed so order a glass of wine or cocktail from an extensive list to go with your favourite Indian curry.

And a Lot of Other Extras
India Bistro is happy to please. When taking orders, servers will ask the desired level of spiciness. The restaurant also does take-out, delivery and catering and the space is available for private events. In the summer, additional tables outside on the sidewalk create a prime people-watching patio. There are no private rooms but un-drawn, the curtains can create cozy, semi-private spaces. India Bistro is an excellent addition to Davie Street as the atmosphere is classy enough for a romantic date but friendly and low-key to be a casual neighbourhood haunt.
