Profile Last Updated: May 01, 2008
On raucous Granville Street, surrounded by night clubs, pubs and tattoo parlours, the Granville Room Eatery and Cocktail Lounge definitely stands out. It exudes class and sophistication – beautiful brick walls, gilded mirrors, black and crystal chandeliers and fresh flower arrangements – with its colour scheme of dark wood and creamy beige. It draws the young, hip and trendy, who come flocking for the sexy vibe, tasty tapas and delicious cocktails. The Granville Room won top honours for “Best Lounge” in 2005, as voted by its peers in the food and beverage industry.
A Cocktail Bar to Remember
The towering built-in shelf behind the bar is full of wine, spirits and liquors, lined two or three deep. There is no doubt that this place can bring on the drinks! Bartenders use the freshest ingredients and muddle the fruit right in front of the customer. Recommended is the Mister Big - a dazzling concoction of muddled watermelon, strawberries, lime and mint-infused syrup.
Don’t Overlook the Food Either
This nightspot encourages trying a little bit of everything: its menu is divided into small plates, big plates and side plates, perfect for sharing and nibbling. Try the beef carpaccio, ahi tuna spring rolls, duck leg confit or marinated lamb chops. If the night is young, why not dip into dessert while sipping your cocktail?
Additional Details
Despite the classy interior, the place retains an approachable laid-back vibe. It shows Canucks games on the two flat-screen TVs by the bar and can hold up to 100 people, including a small, more intimate second-level area overlooking the main floor, and an even smaller patio (open year-round, with heat lamps). But when the sun goes down, only adults can come out and play. The lounge usually disallows minors after 7 p.m.
