The finest carpets are handmade by artisans in Pakistan and Afghanistan, using techniques that have been handed down through generations and incorporating intricate, traditional designs inspired by architecture, nature, and history. However, there are also tribal rugs from Central Asia, geometric designs from Tibet and Nepal, and Aubusson-design carpets from China and India.
Care, repair and consultation
The store not only aims to make shopping enjoyable with a welcoming, no-sales-pressure environment, but also offers a full suite of services for carpet owners. These include appraisals, hand washing and cleaning advice, and repairs. On good-quality wool rugs, however, carpet cleaning should not be attempted, as wool contains lanolin, a natural protectant. In addition, Global Rugs' staff can provide in-home consultations and arrange for custom-designed rugs from their global network of suppliers.
