A legacy of all that's British in West Van, Gleneagles packs a lot of punch for its limited distance. The 1927-built course is more than just mature, and makes up in character for what it lacks in length.
A Fine Walk
The old course that sits in the shadow of the North Shore mountains has the Pacific Ocean a stone's throw across Marine Drive away. And the lush fairways, if a wee bit wide, take golfers a long way in just nine holes.
No Carts, Please, We're British
Come to Cardiac Arrest, a 297 yard par four that plays straight up the hill, and you'll wish you hadn't left the Landrover in the parking lot.
What Else?
The course doesn't take reservations, so it's a great place to try whenever everything else is booked up. You can also wait in their comfortable restaurant and cool down before or after you hit the links. They also have a Pro Shop where you can rent clubs, pull carts, or shoes, get lessons, and have clubs repaired.
By Taking Your Time
You can make the most of a seaside drive. Eschew the Upper Levels and get on Marine Drive, from either the Lions Gate or Second Narrows Ironworkers Memorial Bridge, and head northwest toward Horseshoe Bay. You'll pass through all the small communities that make up West Vancouver and keep visual contact with the ocean. This is perfect preparation for a relaxing round of golf.
