The Gallery Café at the Vancouver Art Gallery was recently redesigned by owner/operator Murray Jamieson together with Vancouver’s BOX Interior Design. These extraordinary efforts were recognized by the Visual Merchandising & Store Design Magazine, which gave a first place Award of Excellence to The Gallery, choosing their interior as the finest out of 300 entries.
Great Food
In the newly redesigned 80-seat Gallery Café, patrons still order their food from the counter, but now retire to dine at perimeter banquettes covered in a sleek black Teflon-like material. They add a contemporary bistro feel to the space, finished off nicely by the table groupings in the centre of the room. Draperies, custom lights and strategic touches of burnt orange used in table lamps complement the ceiling and a handmade area rug to create warmth and intimacy. Outside, on the Gallery Café’s 250-seat patio, a perimeter herb garden borders one of the largest and sunniest patios in the city to enjoy a martini.
Great Prices
The Gallery’s newly revamped menu offers tremendous value and features quick food created with panache. Popular items include salad bowls (Rare Ahi Tuna, Cobb Salad), warm crispy paninis (Pesto Chicken, Brie and Roma Tomato), soups, quiches and innovative sandwiches, plus dramatic desserts (Banana and Chocolate Bread Pudding with Caramel Sauce, Fresh Lemon Mousse). Everything on the menu is made in-house in the Gallery Café’s kitchen, with a focus on fresh BC products. The licensed premises also feature the best of BC, serving Mission Hill wines, Granville Island beer and locally roasted coffee from Vancouver’s own JJ Bean. The Gallery Café’s catering department will also custom design a menu for events such as luncheons, teas and dinners, for corporate and special events, and for home-based gatherings as well.
