Something for Everyone
There isn’t a vegetarian in Vancouver who isn’t well versed in the sublime art of The Foundation. Offering some of the city’s tastiest meals at lower than low prices, this kitschy and cozy Main Street eatery has fast become a staple of both vegetarians and carnivores alike. With broad and eclectic lunch and dinner menus of healthy items to choose from, there is something for everyone here. Even hardcore carnivores won’t walk away unsatisfied. The service is friendly and fast, given how busy the restaurant usually is, and the kitchen keeps the plates moving to the mismatched tables, reminiscent of Grandma’s ‘70s kitchen.

More, Please
With all the delicious offerings to choose from, sometimes the best bet is to go with a group and order a few things that everyone can dip into. At dinner time, The Foundation offers a yummy sharing plate called “A Katered Affair”, which comes with their amazing hummus, yam dip, piles of warm flatbread, colourful tortilla chips, a sampling of their “Molten Tofu” and a generous pile of the “Serial Salad”, finished off with a delicious grain dish that has to be tasted to be understood. And all of this comes for a under $15. The lunch menu has similar items individually, and instead of the many pasta options you get at dinner, they have Tofu Scrambles in pesto, spicy peanut and mango.

Late Dinners and Beyond
Such plates as “Rogue Grain” and “Last Resort” offer a medley of vegetables in coco-chili-lime sauce and green curry, respectively, all piled high on spinach and quinoa or rice. Or opt for their nachos, which have achieved local infamy, piled high and served with heaping bowls of fresh salsa and sour cream. While there are often long line ups at dinner time, many seasoned patrons choose to come late and stay later, as the kitchen is open until 1 a.m. Besides, it’s when the sun goes down that the Foundation really amps up, with fun beats, candles on each table, and cheap wine and draft beer.
